How do you make a jewelry box?

Question by Smoothie: How do you make a jewelry box?
I was thinking about making my girlfriend a jewelry box for Christmas. I don’t really know where to start. I looked at some at a few stores to get some ideas. I’m not necessarily a skilled woodworker, but I used to carve somewhat frequently. I guess I am looking for plans, designs, random insight, anything you can offer me to help me on my quest. Thanks all

Use a large leaf design as a pattern if you wish and cut the shape very thick. carve in veins. Cut in half horizonally and carve out the center. You could put in a dowel at the top of the leaf so that it could swing open. A good place to store rings.
Here are some others if you would want to use some crown molding. I you have access to a miter box.

first, you have to beat the galactic warehouse in veilstone city.

second, after unleashing the 3 pokemon, go to mt. coronet.

third, you will have to fight a series of tough trainers at the top.

fourth, save it right before you approach dialga.

How to learn jewelry making and design?

Question by marisscr8: How to learn jewelry making and design?
I have been very passionate about jewelry my entire life. As an adult, I have made dozens of beaded pieces and several wire wrapped pieces. I’m very interested in learning other techniques to take my jewelry making to the next level but I don’t know where to start. Since I am a busy professional, I’m interested in taking weekend classes either group or private.

I currently live in the Sonoma County in California. I would love any local leads or resources. I don’t know where to start as to learning how to proceed with bench work, molds and other techniques.

You can check whether there happen to be night classes at any university near you which offers jewelry classes, though there are probably not too many. But you can also ask the professors there for advice where to go.
You can check the offerings of local community art centers.

http://www.fallbrookschoolofthearts.org/classes/jewelry-making.html

Local shops where you can buy beads often offer short workshops.

Unfortunately I don’t know whether there are corresponding institutions in California, but the Penland School of Crafts has good classes:http://www.penland.org/, if you can’t find anything closer maybe spend a week vacation there.

And of course you can check your library and bookstores for inspiration. You could for example look into paper jewelry for a different and not tool intensive route to explore. You could also search the internet, Rio grande has various project suggestions:http://forum.riogrande.com/?q=projects

How can I learn how to make silver rings and jewelry out of silver?

Question by mabs: How can I learn how to make silver rings and jewelry out of silver?
I have this ring and it’s a one of a kind bought at an artisans crafts place. Anyway, I think it would look awesome with a couple of tiny diamonds in it. Is there a such thing as a sodering (spelling) gun that I can melt part of it and stick a diamond into it? Pardon my ignorance about jewelry making, but I really have no clue! Does anyone make silver rings? Also, where is a good place on the web to buy supplies for something like this and to make other unique jewelry? Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by mistress_piper
Diamonds are faceted stones; they sparkle because light shines through it. If you place them into metal and cover the back, they really won’t shine. If you look at jewelry with gems in it, they are done in what is called a “prong” setting, so that light will go through it.

If you are serious about wanting to learn, take some night classes in jewelry making/metalsmithing. I took them as electives in college and had a blast. You will learn how to work metals correctly so you don’t ruin the stuff you bought. Either that, or take it to a professional who can work with your jewelry.

Good luck!

How good are diamond back bikes ?

Question by <: ))))>< : How good are diamond back bikes ?
right now i have a cheap walmart bike and it works like crap so i wanted to upgrade to a nice bike that i know wont break as easy as walmart bikes do. i only want a bike that i can ride a little bit everyday, nothing fancy and expensive. do u think this brand is good and is there any other brand that you would recommend. maybe even a website or store i can look at. Thank you !!!

Best answer:

Answer by David D.
One word…Diamondback, makes anywhere from average to good bikes. Some are now being sold at places like Sports Authority. I understand in Canada, they are selling some at Canada Tire. I don’t know if these are true Diamondback bikes, or a second line they make specifically for that discount store chain.

The bottom line being – if you can find it on the Diamondback website, it’s probably better than a Walmart bicycle.

Other brands? Lots & lots. Just Google ‘bicycle shop’ & your zip code. That will bring up every bike shop in your area. Go see them all & try as many as you like. Go with your gut feeling…the bike that “feels” best to you IS the bike for you. See 2nd link & please read it all.

Question by Chris K: how about this interesting fact i must thank alan for this ok not my normal stuff but hey jokers we all learn?
Interesting!
A refresher course–who knew?

I had a neighbor who had bought a new pickup. I got up very early
one Sunday morning and saw that someone had spray painted red
all around the sides of this beige truck (for some unknown reason).
I went over, woke him up, and told him the bad news. He was very upset
and was trying to figure out what to do. Another neighbor came out and
told him to get his WD-40 and clean it off. It removed the unwanted paint
beautifully and did not harm his paint job that was on the truck.
I’m mpressed!
WD-40 who knew?

Water Displacement #40.

The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile
parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego
Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a
water displacement’ compound.
They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40. The Corvair Company bought it
in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts.

Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40
that would hurt you… IT IS MADE FROM FISH OIL
When you read the ‘shower door’ part, try it.
It’s the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If
yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It is a miracle!
Then try it on your stovetop… It is now shinier than it has ever been before.
