How to photograph an entire ring? (Jewelry Photography)?

Question by I hope you can help: How to photograph an entire ring? (Jewelry Photography)?
Take a look at these websites, I’m trying to achieve the same effect. I shot some rings over the weekend but I could not figure out how to stand them up at this angle without revealing what I was propping it up with.

Read the description under this:

These are just sitting on top of a light box. After you take the picture, you can twist it and turn it anyway you need to in Photoshop.

If anyone else answers, I’ll learn something myself. We have some pros who are good at this, so stay tuned.
