How do I set up a website for someone that would like to display jewelry online?
Question by Michael G: How do I set up a website for someone that would like to display jewelry online?
I have a friend that makes jewelry and other glass art pieces that would like to have a website to display and promote her work. How do I go about setting this up? I need a user friendly and fairly inexpensive route to go. Thank you in advance for your response!

Etsy is a good place to sell, BUT there are tons of jewelry makers there. Their fees are reasonable but an artist needs to find a niche and stay on top of this. Artfire is a good place also. The tryout website is free, no fees, nothing. If you want to go pro and have a better store, that is possible also. Artfire is really easy to set up and has lots of help with shipping prices. If she is a Facebook member, she can set up a page for her jewelry there and upload all the photos she wants. That’s free. I would start with the simple setup first. If you strictly want a separate webpage of her own, the best and easiest free one I found was webs.com and whatever your username, that is your site address………..like: herjewelrydesigns.webs.com. Hope this helps.
Use wordpress. WordPress is very powerful cms platform that you can turn it into anything, even a shopping cart as long as you have correct plugins. You also can get someone to design the site into professional looking website and attract people reading all the intro about the jewelry displayed in your sites.

An easy and inexpensive way to make a website for selling jewelry is to use some online website builder, as you don’t need any technical knowledge or previous experience for that. Plus the designs look good and you can customize the website according to your needs.
Try out http://www.moogo.com – professional website starts from $4.99 per month and if you take it for a year, you’ll also get a free own domain name. There’s also an e-store option that allows your friend to sell jewelry online (that option is $14.99/month).
Good luck!
Michael,
You’re best bet is to go with iPAGE. They have unlimited plans which are MUCH cheaper than others like godaddy and Network Solutions. The reason that I decided to go with them was because of price and the free website builder I host a few sites with them and couldn’t be more pleased. Sites start at $3/month!

Hi Michael,
Office Live Small Business might be perfect for you. It will provide you with all the tools you need to create a professional and eye-catching web presence for your friend’s jewelry site. It is a template-based service that lets you build your own websites without the use of code (meaning it is simple to use). It is also extremely inexpensive and offers personalized domain names (prettyjewelry.com) and emails (Michael@prettyjewelry.com), online support, easy-to-use website design and management tools, and the option to purchase additional features that help promote your business. It is also easy to add PayPal to your website, making it a great place to sell your friend’s jewelry.
Cheers,
Cassie
